Mayor Colin Basran
Mayor Basran is proud to be leading the community where he was born and raised. The Basran family was one of the first to settle in Kelowna from India.
He was first elected to Kelowna City Council in 2011, serving one term as Councillor. In 2014, he became Kelowna’s youngest ever Mayor and the first person of colour to hold the office.
In 2018, he was re-elected for a second term as Mayor, continuing to lead one of the fastest growing cities in Canada through a period of unprecedented growth and opportunity. Under his leadership, Kelowna continues to be one of the top places in Canada where people want to invest, do business, study and play.
Mayor Basran is a community builder and champion of inclusivity, diversity and acceptance. He is working to make Kelowna a place where everyone can be who they were born to be.
He also believes in a community where a strong economy, social supports and environmental stewardship are fundamental building blocks for a healthy and vibrant city.
Mayor Basran is a supporter of the arts, sports and recreation in Kelowna and is an active participant in his own artistic and athletic endeavours.
